Sober Support 1

We take great pride in the strong recovery community in our small town.  The Recovery “Rec” Center is available to clients and members of the community for free as a location to build sober social support, engage in sober fun activities or simply get away and relax.  The Rec Center offers several amenities including: electronic dartboards, pool table, foosball table, ping pong table, card playing tables, chess board, beanbag toss/corn hole boards, puzzles and various crafts.  There is a desk area with computer & internet access to assist in seeking employment and other internet needs.  The kitchen area is supplied with microwave, coffee maker, sink, full-size fridge and tables with chairs to allow for small meals and food storage to accommodate potlucks, birthday parties and sober fun events. A private room is equipped with lounging furniture and TV (Amazon Prime Video/Netflix) that serves many purposes, i.e. child play area, private space for sponsors to meet, meeting with professionals, conducting telehealth appointments or just a quiet place to meditate.

Fitness

FITNESS CENTER

Research has found significant and beneficial links between several types of physical exercise and depression, general anxiety, mood, general mental health, quality of life, stress, and well-being. Research has also shown that exercise performed while in recovery from addiction prevents relapse. It does this by decreasing negative feelings or emotions and increasing positive feelings or emotions. The Fitness Center is located in the lower level below the Rec Center at 110 Washburne Ave, Paynesville. Access to the Fitness Center is available 24/7 via a private key through management at Recovery Center.  The Fitness Center features various exercise equipment including Bow Flex machine, treadmill, incumbent bike, rowing machine, lifting bench and free weights.  There is also a separate room with TV and internet to engage in yoga, dancing or aerobics. There is space for rope jumping and boxing/punching bag activity.

Community Outreach Services

Recovery Center lives by the Betty Ford Institute’s philosophy that recovery is a voluntarily maintained lifestyle composed of three components: sobriety, personal health, and citizenship.  We also practice the 12 Steps and know the greatest of the 12th Step.  We do many community service projects to give back to the community that support our recovery efforts through acts of kindness, employment, acceptance at area churches & businesses, neighborly respect at our homes and so much more.

We offer FREE GED tutoring and testing services for any member of the community (near and far). Anyone is welcome to come to work with our teacher, Diane Schultz and other volunteers to participate in tutoring or simply to take the test. We have mentor and volunteer opportunities available whether it is for someone to receive a mentor or serve as a mentor to an adult or one of the many children amongst our program.

Some of the community events that we have hosted or participated in include: Paynesville Town & Country Days Parade, Trunk & Treat, Adopt-A-Highway Clean Up, Recovery Choir performance/fundraising for area organizations/causes,  Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Christmas Caroling for seniors, Officer Tom Decker Memorial fundraising, Food Shelf fundraising, Adopt-A-Park project and so much more.   We also provide fall lawn care and snow removal for the elderly through our volunteers.

We are always looking for new ideas and interactive activities to engage within the community so please feel free to contact us.  If you have a person, family or organization that could benefit from us, please call the main office at 320-243-1599 and speak with Mae Maurer-Rogers.
